This Webinar will guide participants in understanding the effects of historical and ongoing trauma on individuals and communities. It will define trauma and introduce trauma theory to advance our understanding of trauma responses and lead us in creating trauma-informed approaches and services. Participants will learn about the relationships between trauma, teen pregnancy, and dating violence (including sexual coercion and birth control sabotage). Participants will also see how trauma can influence adolescents’ responses to teen pregnancy prevention and other positive prevention messaging

Webinar Objectives
Upon conclusion of this Webinar, participants will be able to:

  • define trauma;
  • provide an overview of biological responses to stress and trauma;
  • recognize how trauma (including from teen dating violence) presents itself in Tribal communities;
  • understand the effect of trauma on individuals’ ability to absorb prevention messaging; and
  • describe trauma-informed services and discuss how to create a trauma-informed environment
