Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment (CBT) for Residents of Domestic Violence Shelters Who Experience Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Wednesday, September 13 | 2:00 – 3:30 pm (CDT)

Hosted by: National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma & Mental Health (NCDVTMH)

Presented by:

Dawn M. Johnson, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist & Associate Professor, University of Akron

Carole Warshaw, Director, National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma & Mental Health

The effects of intimate partner violence (IPV) and PTSD can impact women’s ability to access and effectively use shelter and community resources necessary to establish long-term safety for themselves and their children. This webinar will provide an overview of Helping to Overcome PTSD through Empowerment (HOPE), a CBT and empowerment based treatment designed specifically for women in domestic violence shelters experiencing IPV-related PTSD. This webinar will also present findings from a series of studies on the feasibility and efficacy of HOPE.

Dr. Johnson is a licensed psychologist and Associate Professor at the University of Akron. She has completed three NIMH-funded studies to develop and evaluate the efficacy of HOPE.
